Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service was called to attend a fire at Beijing Garden Fish Bar and Chinese Takeaway on Victoria Road, Ulverston, shortly after 4.15pm on Saturday (June 20).

A fire service spokesperson said: “Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service was mobilised at 4.16pm on Saturday (20 June) to a fire involving a deep fat fryer in a commercial property on Victoria Road, Ulverston.

“Three fire engines attended from Ulverston and Milnthorpe, and the fire was extinguished using two breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet, and a dry powder extinguisher.

“Fire crews were in attendance for one hour and 20 minutes.”

Cumbria Police also attended the incident to ‘assist with a cordon’ and said there were no reported injuries.

On Saturday, a Beijing Garden spokesperson wrote on social media: “Hi everyone, due to an incident at the shop, we will be closed temporarily. Sorry for any inconvenience.”

Beijing Garden remains closed at the time of writing.
