Statement on a talk show
According to ECNS, the claim was made on a political talk show by supporters of Taiwan independence. Its author was Liao Meiran, whom the outlet describes as a fortune teller from Taiwan.
Zhang Han made the comment on Wednesday, August 26, during a regular press conference of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of China.

Statements on cross-strait exchanges
The Chinese representative also said that Taiwan authorities associated with the Democratic Progressive Party are creating restrictions and obstacles to contacts and exchanges across the Taiwan Strait.
According to Zhang Han, this allegedly aims to create an “information cocoon” on the island and prevent Taiwan residents from learning more about mainland China. He called such intentions “deeply malicious” and urged Taiwan residents to visit mainland China more often to familiarize themselves with the situation there firsthand.
