New Delhi, May 21 (SANA) India and the African Union have postponed a summit scheduled for March 28–31 in New Delhi because of the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
The ministry said both sides agreed it would be better to hold the fourth India-Africa Forum Summit at a later date, given the health situation on the continent.
New Delhi said a new date will be announced later and stressed the importance of continued cooperation to strengthen public health preparedness and response across Africa. It also said it is ready to support efforts led by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
The postponement came as Delhi International Airport issued health guidelines for passengers arriving from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan. The World Health Organization said Wednesday that the Ebola risk in Congo remains high, though it has not been declared a public health emergency of international concern.
