Abra Group, a leading air transportation company across Latin America, and Etihad Airways have established a partnership to strengthen connectivity between Latin America, West Asia and key global markets. The MoU is a framework for long-term collaboration across Abra’s airlines Avianca, GOL and Wamos Air, connecting Latin America, West Asia and the rest of Asia through complementary networks. The partnership includes immediate initiatives spanning network development, loyalty programmes, aircraft leasing and ACMI (aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance) operations, according to a media release.

That is why IATA is advocating for a globally standardised approach to emissions reporting. IATA’s CO2 Connect emissions calculator uses data from 110 airlines, which monitor and record every drop of fuel used by their aircraft. Unfortunately, Europe is moving in a direction that creates fragmentation, an unnecessary administrative burden and additional costs for airlines, says IATA. “Collaboration could pave the way for a standardised approach by regulators globally,” said Michael Schneider, IATA’s Assistant Director of Sustainability Programmes.
