IPOH: Malaysia will closely monitor the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian aid mission as the participating ships have entered high-risk zones.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that while he prays nothing will happen to the ships, the government is on standby.

“We are always monitoring (the situation)… The government will do what it can.

“We are in direct communication with not only the Malaysian participants but also with Spain, Turkiye and Brazil,” he told reporters after a meeting with Bumiputra small contractors here on Saturday (May 16).

“We pray that nothing will happen, but we must be prepared,” he added.

It has been reported that the GSF is now about 340 nautical miles from the Gaza coast, where there is a potential risk of interception by the Zionist regime.

The GSF’s mission was halted by the Israeli military in late September and early October last year.

About 30 Malaysian activists aboard the ships were detained.

Separately, Anwar said teachers who are active on social media as influencers must ensure they conduct themselves with good manners and culture.

“There are no issues if they use (social media) to explain facts.

“They must use the platform to be beneficial and uphold morals,” he said.
