TWO fatal traffic incidents in Selangor and the capital have claimed the lives of a pensioner and a retired serviceman, prompting police investigations under the Road Transport Act 1987.

In the first incident, a 67-year-old man was killed after being struck and trapped beneath his own car while attempting to close the gate of his home in Batang Kali, Hulu Selangor.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Superintendent Ibrahim Husin said police received a report regarding the incident at approximately 5.30pm on Wednesday.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had parked his vehicle inside the garage before exiting the car to shut the front gate.

“However, the vehicle suddenly reversed on its own and struck the victim, causing him to fall and become trapped beneath the vehicle,” he said in a statement.

Police believe the victim may have forgotten to engage the handbrake, while the sloping design of the garage leading towards the gate may also have contributed to the tragedy.

The victim suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene before being taken to Hospital Kuala Kubu Baharu for a post-mortem examination.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact investigating officer Inspector Nurul Anati Zulkifli at 03-6064 1222.

Meanwhile, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said firefighters assisted in extricating the victim from beneath the Proton Saga involved in the incident.

The rescue operation involved five personnel from the Bukit Sentosa Fire and Rescue Station who arrived at the location at approximately 5.43pm.

In a separate incident in Kuala Lumpur, a retired soldier died after his motorcycle collided with a BMW that was emerging from a junction along Jalan Kampung Pandan on Sunday morning.

City Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the crash occurred at around 8.30am and involved a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle and a BMW car.

Initial investigations indicated that the 45-year-old motorcyclist, who was travelling in the left lane, is believed to have struck the right side of the BMW as the vehicle exited a junction from the left side of the road.

“As a result of the accident, the local man suffered severe injuries to the head and body before being taken to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for further treatment,” he said.

“However, the victim was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the hospital’s Emergency Department.”

The 44-year-old BMW driver and other passengers in the vehicle were uninjured.

Police investigations, including nearby closed-circuit television footage, found that the driver had arrived at the location to pick up a friend before intending to travel towards Damansara.

The driver was detained on Monday to assist investigations, though breathalyser and urine screening tests found him negative for alcohol and drugs.

The case is also being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“Members of the public who have information or witnessed the incident are urged to come forward to assist investigations by contacting the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or any nearby police station,” Mohd Zamzuri said.

Earlier, footage of the collision circulated widely on social media, showing a car emerging from a junction moments before being struck by the motorcycle. – May 28, 2026
