Fifty-three projects with a total investment of 2.8 billion yuan ($413 million) were signed at the 2026 Chongqing International Animation Film Week Investment Session in Yongchuan, Chongqing on June 10, covering AI-generated content, film technology research and development, talent cultivation and film production.

Nearly 300 industry representatives from film and television associations, leading companies, AI firms, film academies and institutions from Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states gathered for the session, which featured project signings, industrial promotion, the release of support policies and the launch of several new initiatives.

Among the deals, directors Zhang Jizhong and Jiang Ping, novelist Rao Xueman and leading enterprises, including MaxTimes Pictures, established production companies in Yongchuan, strengthening the local technology-driven film and TV industry. Several AI film and TV companies signed agreements to deepen collaboration with local production partners.

New film and TV projects were also launched at the session, spanning genres including animation, suspense, historical drama and contemporary realist fiction. Industry organizations, including the China Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and Orange Sky Golden Harvest also established operations in Yongchuan, accelerating the formation of the district’s emerging technology-driven film and TV sector.

Xu Hongqiu, district chief of Yongchuan, said more than 170 businesses including iQiyi have set up in the district, producing more than 140 film and TV works including “Resurrection” and “Panda Plan.” The district also hosted the 2025 SCO Film Festival, he noted.

“The projects signed today inject strong momentum into the expansion and upgrading of Yongchuan’s technology-driven film and TV industry,” he said.

A support policy package covering funding, space, computing power, talent and distribution channels was also released to attract leading enterprises, projects and talent to the district.

The SCO Film Producers Association Alliance co-production “Our Day” was launched at the session, with filmmakers from participating countries each contributing a 15- to 20-minute short to be edited into a feature-length film. The project continues the 2025 SCO Young Filmmaking Talent Exchange Program and marks a new milestone in Yongchuan’s international film cooperation efforts.
