The Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington is launching a range of events designed to bring aviation history to life during the school holidays, including hands-on experiences.
Located on the site of a former Second World War RAF bomber base, the museum houses around 60 aircraft and vehicles and is home to the only Halifax bomber in Europe.

Jerry Ibbotson, Museum Communications Manager at the Yorkshire Air Museum, said: “Summer is always our busiest period of the year and we’re ready and eager to welcome visitors to the Yorkshire Air Museum over the school break.
“There’s something to offer everyone.
“It’s more than planes; it’s more than history – it’s a great day out.”

The museum is running Operation Halifax, an exhibition marking the 30th anniversary of the completion of its restoration.
Younger visitors can enjoy two new activity trails, one focused on spotting aircraft nose art and another inviting older children to solve codes and answer historical questions around the site.
Visitors can also climb into cockpit sections of selected aircraft in the hangars, which have been repositioned for easier access and improved signposting.
