Delhi Police have arrested four men for allegedly molesting a woman Booth Level Officer (BLO) and obstructing her from carrying out official duties during a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The incident, which took place on July 5 in the city’s Turkman Gate area, came to light after the woman filed a complaint on Wednesday, following which police registered an FIR and launched an investigation.

According to the police, the woman, a teacher by profession, was distributing SIR forms when the four accused – Mohammad Sabreen (44), Atiq ur Rehman (58), Mohammad Asif (50) and Mohammad Aftab (44) — started misbehaving with her.

Police said one of the accused allegedly placed the BLO register on the woman’s lap and signed it despite her objections.

The complainant also claimed that the others abused her and refused to accept the SIR forms.

Based on her statement, the police registered a case and arrested the accused, all residents of the Turkman Gate area.

Confirming the arrests, DCP (Central) Rohit Rajbir Singh said, “A woman BLO had come there for the SIR exercise. When she started distributing the SIR forms, three to four people behaved inappropriately with her.

“One of them, Atiqur Rehman, came into very proximity and signed the SIR register while it was on her lap. Despite being asked to move the register away before signing, he did not comply.”

The officer added that the other accused also made “obscene comments” at the woman officer.

“Based on her statement, it was a cognisable offence of molestation and obstruction of a public servant in doing her duty. We registered a case, identified the four accused and arrested all of them,” Singh said.

Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
