Astral resumes Nairobi-Guangzhou freighter service

Astral Aviation said it has resumed its weekly scheduled Boeing 767-300 freighter service between Guangzhou, China and Nairobi, Kenya to support the transportation of e-commerce and cold chain products.

The route between Guangzhou and Nairobi, with an onward connection to Maputo in Mozambique, was established in August 2024. This route marked the freighter operator’s entry into the China market.

It’s not clear when operations were paused and for what reason. Air Cargo News has contacted Astral for more information.

“We’re delighted to announce the resumption of our weekly scheduled Boeing 767-300 Freighter service between Nairobi and Guangzhou return, further strengthening air cargo connectivity between China and Africa,” said Astral in a Linkedin post.

The service supports demand for e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, perishables, industrial equipment, and general cargo.

“As trade between China and Africa continues to grow, this route reinforces our commitment to connecting businesses, strengthening supply chains, and facilitating economic development across both regions,” added Astral.

Astral noted it had been working with GSSAs TAM Group and Kingfer Lin as part of its efforts to bring the route back into operation.

Since adding China to its network with the Guangzhou-Nairobi route, Astral has taken steps to expand further into the country.

The airline added a Haikou, China to Johannesburg, South Africa, via Nairobi, route in 2025. In July this year, Astral restarted the service in partnership with Fly Noor Aviation.
