In 2025, the European Union recorded its largest-ever trade deficit with China, reaching 360 billion euros. This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen before the start of the G7 summit in Evian, reports UNN.

Details

According to her, the topic of global economic imbalances will be one of the key issues during the meeting of the “Group of Seven” leaders.

2025 will be remembered as the year when, for the first time, all EU member states had a trade deficit with China. The European Union recorded a record deficit of 360 billion euros. This is not a sustainable model

– von der Leyen emphasized.

She noted that Brussels continues its policy of “de-risking, not decoupling” from China. To achieve this, the EU plans to increase its own production capacities, diversify supply chains through new free trade agreements, and protect the internal market from unfair competition.

The President of the European Commission added that the G7 countries share a common vision regarding the need to coordinate actions on issues of global economic imbalances and overcapacity.
