Jakarta. Indonesian stocks opened higher on Thursday after stronger-than-expected second-quarter economic growth and a fresh government liquidity injection into state-owned banks boosted investor sentiment.
Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) gained 28 points, or 0.45%, to 6,379 in early trading. Within the first few minutes, the benchmark moved between 6,355 and 6,388.
Trading volume reached 5.1 billion shares worth Rp 2.14 trillion ($119.54 million) across more than 308,000 transactions. Advancers outnumbered decliners 266 to 234, while 216 stocks were unchanged.
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported Indonesia’s economy grew 5.29% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, easing from 5.61% in the previous quarter but bringing first-half growth to a solid 5.45%. The government said the performance remained resilient despite global headwinds, including trade tensions, geopolitical conflicts, and technological disruption.

“The government is also optimistic economic growth can accelerate to nearly 6% in the second half of 2026, supported by stronger domestic consumption, investment, and liquidity-boosting policies to encourage credit expansion,” Kiwoom Sekuritas Indonesia said in a research note on Thursday.
Investor sentiment also received support after Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa announced an additional Rp 70 trillion placement of Budget Surplus (SAL) funds into state-owned banks, bringing the total placement to nearly Rp 400 trillion. The government will also extend the placement of part of the SAL funds through July 2027 to maintain banking liquidity, reduce funding costs, and support credit growth and economic activity in the second half of the year.
Global sentiment remained broadly positive, underpinned by a strong corporate earnings season and continued optimism surrounding artificial intelligence after earnings reports from Microsoft and Amazon. However, gains were tempered by profit-taking in technology shares after disappointing results from SpaceX and AMD, while non-tech stocks continued to support the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
SpaceX shares tumbled 13.6% as heavy spending on AI infrastructure weighed on free cash flow, while American semiconductor company, AMD, fell 7% despite posting better-than-expected earnings, as investors viewed its guidance as underwhelming.
Overnight on Wall Street, the S&P 500 slipped 0.2% to 7,723, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.8% to 26,363. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.5% to a record closing high of 54,349.
As of 8:42 a.m. Jakarta time, Japan’s Nikkei was down 1.96%, South Korea’s Kospi lost 4.74%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng declined 0.96%, while China’s Shanghai Composite rose 1.47%.
