DP World Tour Championship prize money: How much can Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood win?

The DP World Tour Championship is taking place at Jumeirah Golf Estates, the Greg Norman-designed Earth course in the UAE, and both Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood will be involved

Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy are both competing in the DP World Tour Championship – one of golf’s richest tournaments. McIlroy extended his lead in the Race To Dubai standings earlier this week by carding a final-round 62 at the Abu Dhabi Championship, describing it as a “great confidence builder”.

The Northern Irishman is attempting to retain his title as the Race To Dubai winner and collect his fourth consecutive victory in the Far East. Last year’s was his sixth overall, thanks to victories at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and the DP World Tour Championship, along with four runner-up finishes and two other top-ten finishes.

He became the first player since Colin Montgomerie to win the title three times in a row, and quite remarkably, Montgomerie had won it seven times consecutively between 1993 and 1999.

Speaking ahead of the final leg, McIlroy said: “Obviously ended up one short but a great day of golf and a great way to end the week. Also a great way to sort of go into next week in Dubai, as well.

“I just tried to keep my foot down and make as many birdies as possible knowing that I’m trying to win this tournament but also give myself the biggest cushion possible going into next week [DP World Tour Championship].

“I really like that golf course,” McIlroy said. “It really suits me. Probably suits me a little bit better than this course [Yas Links] does, just in terms of what you need to do off the tee and into the greens.

“This was a great confidence builder this week coming off a couple weeks off and hopefully [I can] just produce more of the same Thursday and onwards.”

Fleetwood comes into the competition in good form, having recently won the DP World India Championship, hitting seven under par and winning by two at Delhi Golf Club last month. However, he was narrowly beaten by Aaron Rai in the Abu Dhabi Championship a week ago.

With 41 events in 28 countries, 36 winners have emerged in the almighty conclusion of the DP World Tour, with the final Rolex Series event in the UAE.

Here’s how much the duo could pocket in the upcoming tournament, set to take place between November 13 and 16. There is one play-off event left and one champion to name…

Prize money

At the conclusion of the DP World Tour play-offs, those who place in the top 10 in the Race To Dubai rankings will share a bonus of £4.6million, with the overall winning bagging £1.5million. The total prize fund for the tournament is £7.7million, which is $10million.

As well as the prize money, there are 12,000 Dubai Ranking Points on offer at the DP World Tour Championship. Players are awarded a share of these points based on where they finish in the tournament.
