CHINO, CALIF. — Specialty Enzymes & Probiotics announced its spore-forming probiotic strain has been added to Health Canada’s Veterinary Health Product (VHP) list for dogs. This makes the ingredient the first and only Bacillus clausii strain to achieve the regulatory distinction and offers pet supplement brands differentiation in the competitive pet probiotic market.
Bacillus clausii 088AE is the foundational strain found in Specialty Enzymes & Probiotics’ ProbioSEB CSC3 Pet™ ingredient, a blend of three, spore-forming probiotics developed specifically for support gut and immune health in dogs and cats.
Health Canada’s VHP review process demands precise strain identification, documented safety, manufacturing consistency and substantiated claims. According to Specialty Enzymes & Probiotics, Bacillus clausii 088AE met every requirement, setting a new benchmark for spore-forming probiotics in pet health.
In addition to the VHP achievement, the strain has Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status with the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and Health Canada NPN-approved claims.
“With FDA GRAS status and Health Canada NPN-approved claims, Bacillus clausii 088AE has already established a strong regulatory and scientific foundation in human health,” said Reshma Rathi, vice president of Specialty Enzymes & Probiotics. “VHP recognition brings that same level of credibility to the pet space and gives formulators a truly differentiated, science-backed probiotic strain.”
