On Saturday, Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, Chirag Paswan, made an important visit to a processing unit in the Nubra region of Ladakh. His visit was focused on assessing initiatives aimed at enhancing value addition and promoting entrepreneurship in the area.
Paswan toured the Gyalson dairy and food processing unit, established under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme, where he engaged with Jigmat Gyalson, the proprietor. Discussions centered on the unit’s progress and the potential for improving processing, packaging, branding, and market access for the region’s local products.
The minister also interacted with entrepreneurs from the food processing and allied sectors in Nubra, who shared insights into how the industry is fostering self-employment and livelihood opportunities in Ladakh’s challenging terrain. Praising their efforts, Paswan underscored the significant role of value addition in supporting the area’s farmers, youth, and women, reinforcing the government’s dedication to developing the food processing sector in Ladakh.
