Jakarta Allocates Rp100bn for LPDP Scholarships

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Jakarta Provincial Government has allocated a budget of approximately Rp100 billion for a scholarship program managed through the Education Fund Management Agency (LPDP).

Governor of Jakarta Pramono Anung stated, “For the LPDP in the upcoming regional budget, it is already included.” This statement was delivered during the Technical Guidance for Capacity Building of Decision Makers within the Jakarta Provincial Government on Monday, June 29, 2026.

The funding is targeted to finance around 50 to 75 students from Jakarta to pursue higher education abroad. The allocated LPDP budget has already surpassed the Rp100 billion mark for the upcoming regional budget cycle.

“If it stands at Rp100 billion, then the LPDP in Jakarta will manage approximately 50 to 75 students who will be sponsored by the Jakarta Provincial Government to study abroad,” Pramono stated.

The Jakarta Provincial Government has indicated that the program’s mechanism will be executed through a joint collaboration with the Central LPDP. Under this specific scheme, the scholarship funding originates from the Jakarta Provincial Government, while the formal mechanism for distribution to foreign universities is facilitated by the Central LPDP.

“The Jakarta Provincial Government prepares the budget, and the distribution mechanism is handled by the Central LPDP because there is only one LPDP, which is the Central LPDP,” Pramono explained.

The final selection of scholarship recipients is determined directly by the regional government. Meanwhile, their eventual placement in foreign universities is tailored to the choices of the respective students.

Regarding the eligibility requirements, the government ensures that the selection criteria are essentially identical to those of the Central LPDP. The sole distinguishing factor lies in the specific requirement that the recipients must be residents of Jakarta. “The specific requirement is having a Jakarta ID card, that is all,” he added.

Furthermore, the government also clarified that recipients of the Outstanding Jakarta Student Card (KJMU) still retain the opportunity to receive LPDP scholarships to pursue advanced higher education.

The KJMU and LPDP are two distinct programs. Therefore, recipients of the KJMU who have completed their undergraduate education can still participate in the LPDP program to pursue master’s or doctoral studies.

“Because LPDP and KJMU are different entities, if someone has completed KJMU and then decides to further their education—for example, pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree using LPDP—they are allowed,” he said.
