Jakarta, IO – The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), in collaboration with the Jakarta Provincial Government, held a healthy walk and public education campaign during Car Free Day (CFD) along HR Rasuna Said Street on Sunday, July 26. The event is expected to encourage the urban residents to adopt a more active lifestyle and improve both public health and the nation’s life expectancy.

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin stressed the importance of staying physically active every day, as regular exercise helps Indonesians live longer and healthier.

“Indonesia’s current life expectancy is around 74 years. Hopefully, by exercising regularly like this, we can improve both the quality of life and life expectancy to over 80 years, similar to developed countries. We want people in Jakarta and across Indonesia to enjoy longer, healthier lives,” he said.

Budi also urged Jakarta residents to help keep their surroundings clean, as environmental hygiene is one of the foundations of good public health.

He advised the communities to sort household waste to create a cleaner and healthier city.

In support of the campaign, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung welcomed the public enthusiasm for open public spaces and the Car Free Day programme in South Jakarta.

He reaffirmed the Jakarta administration’s commitment to providing more opportunities for residents to stay active while addressing environmental issues and improving public facilities, including waste management and the revitalization of educational infrastructure across the capital.

The collaboration between the Ministry of Health and the Jakarta Provincial Government is expected to arouse regular exercise in public spaces as part of everyday life, helping build a healthier, more active, and productive population. (est)
