FedEx has introduced a dedicated non-stop freighter service between Guangzhou and Sydney, expanding air cargo capacity and reducing transit times for selected shipments from Asia to Australia.
The new route will operate five times a week using Boeing 777 freighter aircraft, connecting the FedEx Asia-Pacific hub in Guangzhou with Sydney. Selected shipments are expected to arrive up to one day faster under the expanded service.
The service will consolidate freight originating across Asia, as well as shipments moving from Europe, the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent into the Australian market.
FedEx Regional Vice President Australasia Peter Langley says stronger trade links between Asia and Australia are increasing demand for reliable and time-sensitive logistics services.
“Growing two-way cross-border trade between Asia and Australia is driving greater demand for fast, reliable transportation and logistics,” he says.
“By enhancing direct air connectivity, FedEx is helping customers move goods more efficiently while building agile supply chains that support long-term business growth.”
Selected FedEx shipments originating from Southern Mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand are expected to reach major Australian cities within two business days.
FedEx says the direct service will support faster fulfilment, reduce inventory holding costs and provide additional capacity for heavy freight and high-value goods.
The company also expects the route to support Australian businesses seeking to capitalise on expanding intra-Asia trade, which recorded double-digit growth during 2025.
Asia accounts for approximately two-thirds of Australia’s total global trade, valued at about $516 billion, according to figures cited by FedEx.
The company says improved freight connectivity will be particularly important for small and medium-sized businesses as trade volumes increase and supply chains become more complex.
The Guangzhou connection will integrate with FedEx’s domestic air and road networks across Australia, providing customers with greater network flexibility, shipment visibility and delivery reliability.
FedEx says it is continuing to invest in network optimisation, digital visibility tools and advanced routing technology to improve the speed and efficiency of international shipments.
