Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship 2026 will take place from July 27 to August 2 at Thyagraj Stadium in New Delhi. The event is jointly organised by the Government of Delhi and the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), marking a significant return of top-level international sports competitions to the national capital, according to a press release from the Office of the Education Minister.

Players and representatives from over 35 Commonwealth countries, including England, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Malaysia, Singapore, Scotland, Wales, Nigeria, Kenya, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago, are expected to participate. This edition is regarded as one of the largest Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships ever held.

The championship will comprise competitions across multiple categories over seven days, with the grand finals scheduled for August 2. Officials have stated that detailed information on ticketing, volunteer participation, and match schedules will be provided in the coming months.

Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood, senior officials from the Sports Department, Chairman of the Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation Vivek Kohli, Advisor Brijesh Mathur, Vice Presidents of TTFI Rajiv Duggal and Delhi State Table Tennis Association Deepali Gupta, Secretary General Balbir Singh, Dronacharya Awardee Sandeep Gupta, and other distinguished figures from the sporting community were present at the announcement.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Gupta highlighted Delhi’s history of successfully hosting world-class sporting events and stated that the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship would further enhance the capital’s global sports profile. She affirmed the Delhi Government’s commitment to providing world-class infrastructure, seamless organisation, and an excellent environment for both players and spectators.

Gupta added that Thyagraj Stadium, with its modern facilities, would be the primary venue for competition and ceremonies, offering a world-class experience for players and audiences. She said the event would showcase Delhi’s hosting capabilities, modern infrastructure, and vibrant sports culture on the international stage. The government’s efforts to enhance sports infrastructure and promote international events align with the Vision 2036 Olympics mission.

Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood remarked that the Delhi Government aims to establish the capital as the country’s leading ‘Sports Capital,’ and hosting the 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship 2026 is a significant step towards this goal. He noted that international events of this scale help bolster Delhi’s global sports identity and inspire greater youth participation in sports.

Sood further stated that the championship will offer emerging Indian table tennis players a valuable opportunity to display their talent on a world-class platform. He expressed confidence that the Indian team would enter the tournament as strong contenders on home soil, boosting players’ morale and confidence. He added that the event is expected to energise the sports culture and help establish Delhi as a preferred destination for international sporting events.
