A meeting was held at the National Human Rights Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan (NHRC) between the NHRC First Deputy Director Mirzatilla Tillabayev and a delegation from Peking University led by Shi Yue, Director of the Center for Central Asian Studies, Associate Professor at the School of Foreign Languages.

According to the National Human Rights Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the visit by the delegation, comprising seven representatives of Peking University, took place as part of the field research project “The Silk Road: Past and Present”, implemented from June 10 to 22 in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva.

During the conversation, the Chinese side was provided with information on the key areas of New Uzbekistan’s reform strategy, including experience in legal modernization, the protection of human rights and freedoms, poverty reduction, and sustainable development.

The guests showed particular interest in Uzbekistan’s experience developing national human rights strategies, reducing poverty, and advancing relations between Uzbekistan and China within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. They highlighted the introduction of a targeted social support system for families in need, the implementation of programs to increase employment and develop entrepreneurship in mahallas, and the expansion of public access to education, healthcare, and basic infrastructure.

The head of the delegation praised the National Center’s accumulated experience in the scientific study and practical protection of human rights, noting that Uzbekistan’s systematic approach to legal modernization is attracting genuine interest within the Chinese academic community as a distinctive and effective reform model focused on human dignity and interests.

The delegation from Peking University expressed readiness to cooperate with the National Centre to provide Peking University’s academic materials for the Human Rights House information and resource center, and invited representatives of the NHRC to visit Peking University in November.
