Merits & Tree Law Offices has hired Xue Yizhong and Zhang Jinhui as partners at its Shanghai and Beijing offices, respectively, strengthening its investment, financing, and M&A and dispute resolution practices.

Before joining Merits & Tree, Xue was legal and compliance director for Greater China and APAC operations at Zimmer Biomet. Prior to that, he successively served as legal counsel at McDonald’s China, senior legal counsel at Zimmer Biomet, associate general counsel for Greater China at Boston Scientific and head of legal at Genor Biopharma. Earlier in his career, he spent seven years practising at JunHe’s Shanghai office.

Xue focuses on investment, financing and M&A, dispute resolution and government regulation and compliance, with extensive experience in healthcare and related sectors. He has particular expertise in structuring and implementing commercial projects, investment and M&A transactions as well as licensing deals.

He also specialises in developing healthcare compliance frameworks and systems, and has assisted companies with compliance monitoring projects involving the US Department of Justice and the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Before moving to Merits & Tree, Zhang successively practised at Jincheng Tongda & Neal, King & Wood and Jingtian & Gongcheng for many years, and was based in Beijing throughout these tenures.

Zhang’s practice covers dispute resolution, particularly cross-border commercial litigation and arbitration. He has long represented domestic and international clients in complex commercial disputes, including international arbitration, parallel proceedings across jurisdictions, cross-border recognition and enforcement of court judgments and arbitral awards, cross-border service and evidence collection and compliance reviews for cross-border transfers of evidence.

His clients span the healthcare, internet and technology, real estate, industrial manufacturing and financial sectors.
