Singapore-based connectivity provider Lightstorm announced today (11 August) that it has secured Rs 25 billion ($262m) in funding for a subsea cable stretching from India to Malaysia and Singapore.
The funding comes in the form of a debt facility led by India-based IndusInd Bank, according to a LinkedIn announcement.
The 3600km (2236 miles) I-2SEA, which was announced by Lightstorm last month, will connect Hyderabad and Chennai on India’s east coast to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It will have dual landings in India, one at Machilipatnam and another in South Chennai.
The I-2SEA cable is aimed at hyperscalers, GPU infrastructure providers, and enterprises with AI training and inference workloads.
Lightstorm previously said that the cable was being targeted to be ready for service in Q4 2029.
I-2SEA is being developed under a consortium and joint-build agreement between Lightstorm, Microsoft, Singtel, and Tata Communications. NEC is the system supplier and ASEAN Cableship is the marine installation partner.
