Skydom Releases Dubai Al Maktoum International for X-Plane 12

Skydom have recently released their rendition of Al Maktoum International Airport (OMDW) for X-Plane 12, an airport serving the city of Dubai.

The Al Maktoum Intl’, also known as DWC (Dubai World Central), is the second airport in Dubai, which ranks as the 4th busiest airport in the United Arab Emirates by passenger operations, after Dubai Intl’ (DXB), Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. However, its role is much more important in the cargo industry, as it is one of the key freight hubs in the world.

The airport is relatively new, as the runway construction was finished in 2007, while it has been officially open for operations (although for cargo flights only) in 2010. Only in 2013 did the airport receive all the permits and certificates to handle passenger flights.

Currently, the airport serves as a hub for Emirates Sky Cargo and Solitair, but it is a focus airport for various cargo airlines, such as Atlas Air, Cargolux, Silkway, Ethiopian, and Turkish Cargo. As for the passenger traffic, it is currently only served by Azimuth, a Russian airline. However, due to the recent military activity in the region, DWC has also been used for passenger flights by Emirates and FlyDubai for a short period of time.

Aside from freighters and airliners, Al Maktoum is also a busy hub for business aviation and is home to Emirates Flight Academy, which has a separate apron and runway, located on the southern side of the airport.

Skydom’s rendition of OMDW features detailed passenger terminal, VIP and executive aviation facilities, cargo complexes, Emirates Flight Academy campus, apron and runway, Dubai Airshow venue, custom ground textures and markings, and enhanced night lighting.

The scenery is available on SimMarket for roughly $19.28, and requires at least 3.5GB of free disk space.
