Delhi-Meerut Expressway choked as police check vehicles ahead of CJP protest

GHAZIABAD: A long traffic jam was reported on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway on Monday morning after Delhi Police began checking vehicles entering the capital at the Ghazipur border.The checking was carried out following the CJP protest in Delhi.Anurag Singh, a resident of Crossing Republik, said he was stuck in traffic for more than one and a half hours. He said he was first caught in a routine traffic jam on NH-9 from Crossing Republik to the Sector 62 Gol Chakkar. Later, he encountered another traffic jam on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway near UP Gate, where Delhi Police had set up barricades and was checking every vehicle. He said it took him more than 45 minutes to cross the Ghazipur border.Diksha Singhal, a resident of Pratap Vihar, said she recently joined a startup as a software developer. She said she left home at 9.30 am, but it took her more than two hours to reach her office in Mandi House, Delhi.ACP Suryabali Maurya said Delhi Police was checking every vehicle entering the capital, which led to traffic congestion on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.“Police personnel from three police stations — Indirapuram, Khoda and Kaushambi — have been deployed along with traffic police to manage traffic and maintain law and order,” he said.
