The Delhi government has announced that the city will induct 300 new air-conditioned electric buses into its public transport fleet on July 4, as part of the efforts to strengthen sustainable mobility and improve public transport infrastructure. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also said a city-wide plantation drive to plant 70 lakh saplings will begin on July 7, describing both initiatives as part of the government’s commitment to environmental protection, according to PTI.

Gupta made the announcements while addressing three separate ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sammelan’ events organised to mark 12 years of “service, good governance, development, and public welfare” under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, according to a statement issued by the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office.

Earlier in June, the Centre approved a ₹9,585 crore scheme aimed at phasing out ageing trucks and buses in the Delhi-NCR region, as part of efforts to address worsening air quality. The initiative focuses on replacing BS-IV and older commercial vehicles with cleaner BS-VI-compliant or electric alternatives.

Under the programme, owners of older trucks and buses registered in Delhi-NCR will be eligible for financial support if they scrap their vehicles at authorised facilities or sell them outside the region. To avail the benefits, these vehicles must be replaced with new or used BS-VI or electric models registered within the NCR.
