In a meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Thursday, the ministry’s Acting Director General of Electricity, Tri Winarno, said the figure reflects a significant jump from 2016, during which the electrification rate stood at 91.16 percent.
According to him, this achievement demonstrates that access to electricity is becoming a reality for more Indonesians as the country nears full electrification, with the majority of provinces having already surpassed a 95 percent electrification rate.
“In fact, some regions, such as Bali and Jakarta, have achieved 100 percent electrification,” he added.
Winarno emphasized the government’s strong commitment to providing electricity access to every village across Indonesia within four years, in line with directives from President Prabowo Subianto.
One of the key initiatives backing this commitment is the Village Electrification (Lisdes) program.
In an effort to expand access to electricity, the government has also initiated four strategies in accordance with the specific conditions in each region.
These include grid extensions for villages located close to existing distribution networks.
Additionally, a mini-grid strategy will target areas that are difficult to reach via grid expansion, with residents living in groups.
“Then we have individual solar power systems and batteries, and lastly, the subsidized new electricity installation assistance (BPBL),” he said.
The BPBL program targets low-income households that lack electricity despite being located near low-voltage power lines of the state-run electricity company PLN.
“The 2025–2029 roadmap for the Lisdes and BPBL programs was designed as a national roadmap to achieve sustainable and equitable electricity access across the country,” Winarno remarked.
On the same occasion, PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo expressed the company’s readiness to execute the government’s mandates, stating that PLN serves as the state’s extension in implementing national electricity policies.
