The remarks were made on June 24 at a signing ceremony for a cooperation programme on communications, public engagement and supervision of the production and trade of safe, high-quality agricultural, forestry and fishery products for the 2026–2030 period. The programme was jointly signed by the Government, the Vietnam Farmers’ Union and the Vietnam Women’s Union.
Addressing the event, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that food safety has become increasingly important as export markets impose stricter requirements on product quality and safety.
“Ensuring food safety means protecting both public health and the agricultural economy,” she said.
She called on ministries, localities and socio-political organisations to strengthen coordination in raising public awareness, supervising compliance and encouraging the production and consumption of safe food. Relevant organisations were also urged to play a greater role in translating food safety regulations into practical action at the community level.
The 2026–2030 cooperation programme aims to improve public awareness and encourage behavioural change across society, contributing to the development of a safe, transparent and sustainable agri-food ecosystem.
According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Vo Van Hung, key priorities will include improving food safety policies, expanding public outreach efforts and promoting green, organic and low-emission agricultural models.
The programme will also focus on applying science, technology and digital transformation throughout agricultural value chains, while strengthening traceability systems, production-consumption linkages and e-commerce platforms to increase the value of Vietnamese agricultural products.
At the same time, authorities will continue enhancing inspection, monitoring and enforcement activities to address food safety violations.
During the 2021–2025 period, government agencies and mass organisations implemented a wide range of awareness-raising and community engagement activities that helped millions of farmers and women better understand safe food production and consumption practices.
Community-based monitoring mechanisms and support for safe production models have also expanded, creating a solid foundation for the next phase of implementation.
The new programme is expected to further improve agricultural quality management, safeguard public health, accelerate the transition toward green and sustainable agriculture, and strengthen the international standing of Vietnamese agricultural products.
