VFS Global has announced its participation in Dubai’s Flame Tree Initiative, a sustainability and urban beautification project led by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The initiative aims to plant 1,200 flame trees across the city, coinciding with Eid al-Adha, a time of giving and sharing.
The trees, sourced from Wadi Dafta plantation, will be planted in collaboration with Dubai Municipality. Zubin Karkaria, CEO of VFS Global, expressed pride in supporting the initiative, highlighting the flame tree’s role as a symbol of Dubai’s vibrant community. “Flame trees are more than just a flowering species. They are a unique marker of the summer season in Dubai,” Karkaria stated.
Flame trees, scientifically known as Delonix regia, have been a part of Dubai’s landscape for decades, contributing to the city’s green spaces and urban aesthetics. Ahmed Ali Obaid Alhefeiti, owner of Wadi Dafta Plantation, praised the initiative’s impact on reducing heat exposure and creating cooler microclimates.
This effort is part of VFS Global’s broader 1 Million Trees Campaign, which has seen over 650,000 trees planted globally. The company’s commitment to sustainability is further demonstrated by its 45% reduction in emissions since 2019, achieved through green energy initiatives.
