PETALING JAYA: Women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah continued their impressive run in the Indonesian Open by booking their place in the quarter-finals after defeating Taiwan’s Hsu Ya-ching-Sung Yu-hsuan on Thursday (June 4).

The Malaysian pair, who finished runners-up last year, needed just 30 minutes to secure a 21-18, 21-19 victory in their second-round match at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta.

Pearly-Thinaah will next face either compatriots Carmen Ting-Ong Xin Yee or Japan’s Rui Hirokami-Sayaka Hobara for a place in the semi-finals.

Also advancing to the last eight were mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie.

The husband-and-wife duo overcame Indonesia’s Jafar Hidayatullah-Felisha Pasaribu 21-15, 21-19 and will next take on either defending champions Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue of France or India’s Rohan Kapoor-Gadde Shivani.

“The past few weeks have been tough for us because we haven’t been able to get back to our best form.

“We didn’t achieve the results we wanted in the previous two tournaments, so reaching the quarter-finals this week means a lot to us. It shows that we’re slowly regaining our rhythm and confidence,” said Shevon in a post-match interview with the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
