Ansteel, a unit of Ansteel Iron & Steel Group and the second-largest steelmaker in China, has increased its domestic pricing for hot-rolled carbon steel coils by 50 yuan per tonne ($7 per tonne) for August deliveries relative to the prior month. BigMint reported this development, referencing the firm’s official statement.
Previously, Baosteel also raised prices for major flat steel items, including hot-rolled coils.
Mysteel data shows that domestic hot-rolled steel prices hit a high on 11 May at 3,498 yuan per tonne (roughly $516 per tonne). By 14 July, however, they had dropped by about $26 per metric tonne from that level. This downturn stems mainly from weak consumer demand during the typical summer slowdown. Leading Chinese steel producers are now pushing prices upward to revive the market.
Bengang Steel Plates, part of the Bengang Group, likewise announced a 50 yuan per tonne hike for hot-rolled steel for August sales.
Meanwhile, Vietnamese mill Formosa Ha Tinh Steel, within a week of its last hot-rolled steel price reduction, introduced extra discounts of $7 to $9 per tonne on hot-rolled steel for bulk orders. This offer covers domestic deliveries for August and September and applies to large orders of 20,000 tonnes or more. Buying activity in Vietnam remains subdued at present.
