A Ryanair Boeing 737-800, registration EI-DYA, operating flight FR2770 from Milan Malpensa to Bari, was forced to divert on May 28, 2026, after the captain became medically incapacitated during the climb phase of the flight. The first officer took control of the aircraft, stopped the climb at FL250 (25,000 feet), and elected to divert to Bologna Airport.

The aircraft landed safely on runway 12 in Bologna approximately 20 minutes after the diversion decision was made. Following the landing, the captain was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment, while passengers remained under the airline’s assistance.

To complete the journey to Bari, Ryanair dispatched a replacement Boeing 737-800, registration EI-DPP, which eventually transported passengers to their destination with a delay of approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes. The affected aircraft remained on the ground in Bologna for about eight hours before returning to service on a subsequent flight to Alghero.
