FlyArystan Launches First Almaty to Chongqing Direct Flights, Expanding Kazakhstan China Air Connectivity with Twice-Weekly International Services from September 2026

From 23 September 2026, FlyArystan will introduce direct international flights linking Almaty with Chongqing. This new connection will be the first-ever direct link between the two places. The five-hour flight will take place twice a week, operating from Almaty every Wednesday and Saturday, while departing from Chongqing every Thursday and Sunday.

This new addition is part of the increasing China route network offered by FlyArystan, and provides Kazakhstan residents the chance to visit a destination famous for its hilly terrain, stacked-up city structure, location on the Yangtze River, and unique food culture. Tickets are currently on sale, with one-way tickets priced at around KZT 96,000 for Standard class.

Almaty Gains Its First Direct Air Connection With Chongqing

The inaugural flight is scheduled to depart on 23 September 2026, establishing a city pair that has not previously been served nonstop by a Kazakh airline. FlyArystan states that it will become the first carrier from Kazakhstan to operate directly between the two cities. The route gives passengers an alternative to itineraries requiring connections through other Chinese or regional airports.

For leisure travellers, that can simplify access to Chongqing and surrounding areas. For companies, government organisations and educational institutions, the direct service could make short business visits, meetings and commercial exchanges more practical. The operation became possible following recent discussions and agreements between the civil aviation authorities of Kazakhstan and China, according to the airline.

Twice-Weekly Schedule Supports Leisure and Business Travel

Flights from Almaty International Airport will operate every Wednesday and Saturday. Return services from Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport are scheduled for Thursdays and Sundays. This pattern allows several possible travel combinations. Passengers could arrange a short midweek visit, remain through the weekend or build a longer itinerary around the two weekly departures.

However, the limited frequency means travellers must plan accommodation, meetings and onward connections carefully. A missed or disrupted flight could require passengers to wait several days for the next FlyArystan service. Travellers should therefore examine their ticket conditions and consider appropriate insurance, particularly when arranging separate domestic flights, railway journeys or hotel reservations in China.

Five-Hour Flight Removes the Need for an Intermediate Stop

FlyArystan estimates the journey between Almaty and Chongqing at approximately five hours. A direct flight substantially reduces the complexity of reaching the destination compared with an itinerary involving an airport connection. Tickets are being sold through the official FlyArystan website, mobile application and other authorised channels.

The airline operates a low-cost model using Airbus A320-family aircraft across its domestic and international network. Customers should review the selected fare bundle before purchase because baggage, seat selection, meals and flexibility can differ according to the product chosen. FlyArystan’s official information states that the advertised Standard fare begins at KZT 96,000 one way, although the final price may change with demand and currency fluctuations.

China Network Continues Expanding From Multiple Kazakh Cities

The Chongqing route complements FlyArystan’s existing services to Urumqi, Yining and Xi’an. The carrier operates Almaty–Yining flights several times weekly and introduced the Almaty–Xi’an route in June 2026. It has also served Urumqi from Astana and launched another direct Urumqi connection from Aktau.

FlyArystan describes Chongqing as its fifth destination in China. However, the airline’s announcement names three existing Chinese destination cities—Urumqi, Yining and Xi’an—which would make Chongqing the fourth named city. The description may be counting separate Kazakhstan–China routes, including the two Urumqi city pairs, rather than unique Chinese destinations. The airline has not clarified the wording. The broader direction is nevertheless clear: China has become an increasingly important part of the carrier’s international expansion.

Chongqing Brings a Dramatically Different City Experience

Chongqing is a centrally administered municipality in southwest China, built across steep hills at the meeting point of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers. Its vertical roadways, bridges, towers, stairways and rail lines have created a multi-level cityscape unlike that of flatter metropolitan destinations.

The new route may appeal to Kazakh travellers seeking an alternative to China’s more established tourism gateways. Chongqing combines contemporary architecture with historic districts, riverfront attractions, hotpot cuisine and access to a much larger municipality containing urban, rural and mountainous areas. Its position within western China also gives travellers options for continuing to other destinations by domestic air or rail, although onward journey times and booking requirements should be checked separately.

Liziba Monorail Has Become a Symbol of the City

One of Chongqing’s most recognisable attractions is Liziba Station, where a monorail line passes through a mixed-use building. The station has become a major photography location because it demonstrates how the city’s transport infrastructure has been adapted to difficult mountainous terrain.

A purpose-built viewing area allows visitors to watch and photograph the train safely from across the road. The station and building use separate supporting structures, limiting the transmission of vibration into the property while allowing the railway to pass through the development. The attraction reflects the wider appeal of Chongqing, where unusual changes in elevation can make roads, train lines, pedestrian routes and building entrances appear to exist on several different ground levels.

Kazakh travellers, meanwhile, receive easier access to Chongqing’s urban attractions and southwest China’s wider transport network. The direct service could support packaged tours, independent holidays, family visits and specialist travel focused on food, architecture or photography. Its long-term contribution will depend on fares, schedule reliability, destination promotion and cooperation among airlines, airports and tourism organisations.

Visa-Free Travel Reduces a Major Administrative Barrier

Travel between Kazakhstan and China is supported by the mutual visa-free arrangement introduced in 2023. Kazakh citizens can make qualifying short visits to China without obtaining a conventional visa, while Chinese citizens receive reciprocal access to Kazakhstan.

Official information indicates that permitted stays are generally limited to 30 days per entry, subject to the agreement’s conditions and restrictions. Visa-free access does not authorise employment, long-term study or permanent residence. Passengers should confirm that their passport remains valid and check current entry, registration and customs requirements before travelling. Rules can vary according to nationality, journey purpose and length of stay, even when a visa is not required.

September Launch Arrives During a Popular Travel Period

The inaugural flight is planned for late September, a period when Chongqing generally begins moving away from the most intense summer heat. The timing could support autumn city breaks and business travel before the end-of-year holiday period. Travellers should still prepare for a large, densely populated city with considerable differences in elevation. Comfortable footwear and realistic daily itineraries are important because walking routes can involve stairways, slopes and multi-level transport interchanges.

Passengers planning to travel beyond Chongqing should not assume that every nearby attraction can be visited as a brief excursion. FlyArystan mentions Zhangjiajie National Forest Park as part of the wider regional tourism opportunity, but the park is in neighbouring Hunan Province and requires a separate onward journey from Chongqing.
