Global architecture, engineering and consulting firm Egis has appointed Shakir Khaja as aviation sector director for Europe and Africa as it looks to expand its presence across the UK and Ireland airport market.

Based in London, Shakir brings more than 25 years of international aviation experience, having worked on major programmes and strategic initiatives for airports including Heathrow, London City Airport and Fraport Greece.

He joins Egis from Arcadis, where he served as senior director for aviation, and also sits on the board of the British Aviation Group.

In his new role, Shakir will work with airport operators and stakeholders across Europe and Africa, supporting projects focused on expansion, operational efficiency, sustainability and infrastructure optimisation.

He said: “Egis has a strong global reputation in aviation and a breadth of capability across airport advisory, development and operations.

“There is a clear opportunity to bring this expertise together more cohesively across the UK, Ireland and wider Europe, and to work closely with airport partners to deliver long-term, sustainable value.

“I’m looking forward to building on this foundation and helping establish Egis as a trusted advisor to airports as they address the challenges and opportunities ahead.”

Shakir’s appointment forms part of Egis’ wider strategy to strengthen its aviation offering as airports respond to rising passenger demand, decarbonisation targets and the need to maximise existing infrastructure.

Egis works with more than 100 airports globally and provides advisory, engineering and operational services across the full airport development lifecycle.

Martin Vallance, transport and mobility consulting director, Egis in the UK, added: “Shakir brings exceptional aviation expertise and a proven track record of delivering complex airport programmes across some of the most challenging environments globally.

“He combines deep technical understanding with strong commercial insight and a clear ability to drive outcomes at both operational and programme level.

“We’re thrilled to have him on board as we continue to strengthen our position in the UK and Ireland.”
