While the FAA has detailed plans in place for effectively managing air traffic during scheduled FIFA World Cup matches taking place in the U.S., Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, business aviation operators should conduct due diligence and plan to secure prior permission required (PPR) programs at airports when necessary.
NBAA Vice President of Air Traffic Services and Infrastructure Heidi Williams said the FAA, airports, FBOs and industry stakeholders, including NBAA, are coordinating to minimize operational impacts while managing higher traffic volumes. In some cases, airports have proactively implemented PPR programs to manage ramp space and traffic levels.
“Plan ahead, secure a PPR when required and be prepared to provide that number to ATC,” she said. “If you do not have a PPR where one is required, you should expect to be diverted.”
For more information, NBAA has developed a FIFA World Cup 2026 resource page, which is updated regularly with the latest information for each airport and region.
