LETTER: Planes, trains, and automobiles all increasing noise levels

Published 6:00 pm Tuesday, May 12, 2026

Dear Editor,

[RE: GUEST SHOT – Pitt Meadows airport traffic is booming, March 16, The News]

Pitt Meadows airplane traffic is booming.

With the current growth in traffic at our Pitt Meadows airport, and the construction that goes along with the increase in daily flights, there is most definitely an increase in noise in the area.

This is “coupled” with the massive increase in train traffic, currently at 45 freight trains per day, as well as 10 commuter trains blocking local crossings 3.5 hours per day.

According to information I was able to find, the train traffic is expected to increase to 65 per day, which will also increase the local crossings blockage.

With the increase in air traffic and expansion at the airport, the increase in vehicle traffic to and from the airport, and the growth in trains, we – the residents of this once relatively quiet community – are well surrounded by planes, trains, and sutomobiles – and there is a huge increase in the noise level surrounding us as well.

We are quite sure, most people living here are well aware there is airport and train traffic through the city, and there will be growth in both areas. However, maybe as stated in a previous letter, some further studies into the issues should be made before we go ahead with further expansion.

T & M Brotzel, Pitt Meadows
