Genesis GV90 to debut with 490 kW of power

Reports first emerged in 2023 that Genesis was planning a fully electric SUV based on Hyundai Motor Group’s new eM platform, with the GV90 name also surfacing at the time. The electric flagship is expected to be similar in size to the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9, although both models still use the Group’s E-GMP architecture.

Last summer, reports suggested that Genesis would unveil the GV90 in June 2026. June passed without a presentation, however, and Genesis has yet to reveal the electric luxury SUV. Genesis is positioning the GV90 against models such as the SUV version of the Mercedes EQS and the Cadillac Lyriq. Recent spy shots have shown heavily camouflaged prototypes. Otherwise, details have remained scarce

Certification documents now provide the first technical details of Genesis’ new flagship SUV. Data submitted to South Korea’s Ministry of Environment (KENCIS) on 10 August 2026 shows that the GV90 will feature all-wheel drive with a combined output of 490 kW. A 240 kW motor powers the front axle, while a 250 kW unit drives the rear.

The GV90 uses a battery with a gross capacity of 123.5 kWh, of which 115 kWh is usable. The battery has a nominal voltage of 703 volts, while the vehicle uses an 800-volt electrical architecture. The architecture allows high charging rates, although the homologation documents do not provide charging figures.

The documents also list six- and seven-seat configurations, as well as 22- and 24-inch wheels. The GV90 has a kerb weight of 3,030 kg and a gross vehicle weight of 3,665 kg. The latter could have implications for drivers in the EU with a Class B licence, which generally covers vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of up to 3.5 tonnes. Mercedes-Benz recently addressed the same issue with its new electric van, the VLE, offering versions with gross vehicle weights of 3.5 and 3.7 tonnes.
