Sébastien Buemi and his team-mates Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa start the World Endurance Championship with a victory. The trio won the opening 6-hour race in Imola.
In the first test of the new season, the Toyota team, with the Vaud native, the New Zealander and the Japanese driver at the wheel, prevailed against Ferrari. After 213 laps, final driver Buemi had a 13-second lead over last season’s world champions James Calado, Antonio Giovinazzi and Alessandro Pier Guidi. Third place also went to Toyota.
It was the 50th victory for the Japanese car manufacturer in its 100th endurance race.
