PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines has cancelled selected flights from Kuala Lumpur to Shenzhen and Hong Kong due to adverse weather conditions caused by Typhoon Noul.
According to the Malaysia Airlines website, the cancelled flights on July 25 and 26 are MH522 (Kuala Lumpur-Shenzhen), MH523 (Shenzhen-Kuala Lumpur), MH078 (Kuala Lumpur-Hong Kong) and MH079 (Hong Kong-Kuala Lumpur).
“Given the evolving weather situation, the airline is closely monitoring developments. Further updates regarding flight operations will be published on the website and communicated directly to affected passengers,” it said in a notice.
The airline also encouraged passengers to update their contact details via My Booking on its website or mobile app to ensure they receive timely updates by email and text message.
“Affected passengers may request a refund or rebook their travel on the same route at no additional cost within 30 days of the original travel date through My Booking, AskMH Live Chat or the airline’s global contact centre,” it said, adding that the safety of its passengers and crew remained its top priority.
Meanwhile, a check of the AirAsia flight status page showed that flight AK126 from Kuala Lumpur to Shenzhen was cancelled on Sunday, while flights AK122 and AK128 on the same route are delayed.
Similarly, flights AK138 from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong and AK112 from Kuala Lumpur to Guangzhou are also delayed.
Typhoon Noul is forecast to make landfall in the coastal area stretching from Hong Kong to Guangdong province between the evening of July 25 and the morning of July 26, threatening torrential rain and gale-force winds, AFP reported.
More than 20,000 people had been evacuated in Guangdong, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV said in a bulletin issued late on July 24.
