Lawyers Justin Yap and Andrew Poh have co-founded JPP Law, a new firm based in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur.
Yap previously worked at several law firms, including Lavania & Balan Chambers and Jonathan Yuo & Teh. He leads the firm’s disputes practice, possessing expertise in general civil and commercial matters, including claims, contractual disputes, court proceedings and enforcement.
Poh, formerly an advocate and solicitor at the High Court of Malaya, heads the commercial practice, focusing on business structuring, transactions, shareholder arrangements and the agreements behind them.
Yap said JPP LAW was launched to address a gap in the market, particularly for clients seeking direct access to lawyers who provide practical advice.
“This was the right time for us because the legal market is changing. Businesses are dealing with faster transactions, more cross-border issues, digital asset questions, shareholder disputes, debt recovery problems and regulatory uncertainty,” he told Asia Business Law Journal.
JPP LAW focuses on four key practice areas – disputes, corporate advisory, commercial contracts and digital assets advisory. The firm currently comprises the two founders, but there are plans to expand headcount over time.
Looking ahead, Poh said JPP LAW aimed to grow its presence and reputation.
“We also intend to grow our team, deepen our practice areas and build stronger relationships with clients in Malaysia and across the region,” he said.
