JAKARTA – The defendant in the case of alleged extortion of occupational safety and health (K3) certificates at the Ministry of Manpower (Kemenaker), Irvian Bobby Mahendro, admitted that part of the money from the corruption was used to help the political activities of former Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziah in the 2024 Legislative Elections.

Irvian made the confession during a trial of the defendant at the Corruption Court (Tipikor) in Jakarta, Wednesday, May 6.

During the trial, the prosecutor of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) initially investigated the flow of funds from extortion against the K3 service company. Irvian then revealed that the funds were used for personal interests to the needs of leaders in the Ministry of Home Affairs.

“There are several activities in 2024, I was asked by Pak Heru to cover activities in the Bu Menteri constituency, in South Jakarta. There are about three activities,” said Irvian in front of the panel of judges.

The prosecutor then asked Irvian to explain in more detail regarding the use of the funds for political purposes.

According to Irvian, Ida Fauziah at that time ran as a candidate for DPR member from the Jakarta II electoral district which includes Central Jakarta, South Jakarta, and abroad. He admitted that he was asked to help fund a number of political victory activities.

“So at that time in 2024, the Minister wants to run for the DPR. His Dapil is in South Jakarta and Central Jakarta. I was asked to help carry out activities there,” he said.

Irvian said that the funds spent for one activity reached around Rp. 200 million. In one year, the funded activities are said to take place four to five times.

“Each activity is around Rp. 200 million,” he said.

Based on this confession, the total funds allegedly used to support political activities amounted to around Rp1 billion.

In this case, the former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer alias Noel along with Irvian Bobby Mahendro and nine other defendants were charged with extortion related to the management of K3 certificates.

The prosecutor said that this practice generated Rp6.5 billion in money. In addition, Noel is also suspected of receiving personal benefits of Rp70 million as well as gratification in the form of Rp3.3 billion in cash and one unit of a Ducati Scrambler motorcycle.

This case also dragged a number of officials and employees in the environment of the Directorate of K3 Development of the Ministry of Manpower, including private parties suspected of being involved in the extortion practice.

The trial of the alleged corruption case in the management of the K3 certificate is still ongoing at the Jakarta Corruption Court.
