The Indian Oil on Friday stated that the prices of petrol and diesel continue to remain the same despite the elevated global energy prices. The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) said in a statement there has been no rate revision in key fuels affecting the general public, meaning the prices of petrol and diesel remain unchanged on Friday, May 1, 2026.

On Thursday, the government notified revised export levies for petroleum products for the fortnight starting May 1, 2026, setting the duty on diesel at ₹23 per litre and on aviation turbine fuel (ATF) at ₹33 per litre, while keeping petrol exports duty-free. Crude oil prices have surged to a four-year high of USD 126 per barrel, from about USD 73 per barrel before the war.

The government on Tuesday maintained that there is no proposal to hike the fuel prices in the country. The statement came amid speculation that the government may allow state-run oil marketing companies to increase pump prices after voting in key state elections concludes.
“LPG, petroleum and diesel are available in sufficient amounts, and the prices have not increased, so please do not panic,” Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said. The government has ensured 100 per cent supply for domestic LPG and PNG consumers, as well as for CNG used in transportation, according to her.
Recently, the fact-checking unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) dismissed as fake a viral message claiming that petrol and diesel prices have been hiked by up to Rs 12.50 per litre. The Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit clarified that no such order has been issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG).

Commercial LPG prices hiked

The price of 19kg commercial LPG cylinder have been increased by Rs 993 starting today. As per the revision, a 19kg cylinder will now cost Rs 3,071.5 in Delhi. Kolkata recorded the steepest jump, with commercial LPG prices rising by ₹994. The cylinder now costs ₹3,202, up from ₹2,208 earlier.

In Mumbai, the price increased by ₹993 to ₹3,024, compared to the previous ₹2,031. Chennai also saw a sharp rise, with the cylinder now priced at ₹3,237, up from ₹2,246.50 earlier. However, there has been no change in the price of domestic cylinders, Indian Oil said in a statement.
