The central authorities’ point man for Hong Kong and Macau recognised the Macau administration’s results in the fields of Administration and Justice during a meeting held in Beijing with Secretary Wong Sio Chak, a government press release indicated on Saturday.
The meeting between Xia Baolong, director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council, and the Macau Secretary for Administration and Justice was held in the capital on Friday.
Xia “fully recognised the results achieved across various areas by the Macau SAR’s Administration and Justice sector,” adding that Beijing “maintains full confidence in the future development of Macau, and will continue to support the SAR in safeguarding national security, promoting the appropriate diversification of the economy, deepening public administration reform, and advancing the integrated development of Macau and Hengqin.”
Wong pledged to continue to promote the Administration and Justice portfolio, accelerate the second phase of construction of the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and drive Macau’s better integration into and service toward the overall national development, the same statement indicated.
The meeting comes one week after Xia, who also serves as head of the Hong Kong and Macau Work Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, completed a four-day tour to Hengqin.
