The Chinese capital is set to become a world-class hub for cultural exchange as the 2026 Beijing Art Season kicks off. Running from May 21 to June 15, the festival will feature over 400 events, drawing hundreds of art institutions from roughly 20 countries, according to a news conference on Wednesday.

Themed “Art Gathers in Beijing, Harmony Embraces All”, the season is expected to attract five million participants and generate hundreds of millions of yuan in industry revenue, according to its host, Beijing 798 Culture & Technology Co Ltd.

“The art season serves as an opportunity to deepen the connections between art and technology, the local and the international, and the professional and the public,” said Guo Huaping, president of the company.

At the center of the festivities are two powerhouse events—Gallery Weekend Beijing, which is celebrating a milestone 10th anniversary this year, and Beijing Dangdai Art Fair, running from May 21 to 24 at the National Agricultural Exhibition Center.

In a first for the city, the 2026 season will establish an integrated framework linking primary galleries with the secondary auction market. This move is designed to bridge the gap between artistic creation and commercial circulation, strengthening Beijing’s overall “artistic ecosystem”.

For the first time, the art season will span six major urban districts, turning the entire city into a living gallery. The citywide celebration will blend high-end art trade and exhibitions, public arts education, and family-friendly events, boosting local cultural and tourism consumption.

Various art diplomacy events will be organized during the event, highlighting Beijing as a global hub for cultural exchange.

For example, a large Brazil-themed exhibition will take center stage to mark the 2026 China-Brazil Cultural Year. A children’s painting exhibition focused on ecological education, specially curated in collaboration with UNESCO, will be launched.

A number of Beijing-based international cultural centers, such as the Cervantes Institute, the Danish Cultural Institute, the Korean Cultural Center, and the Goethe-Institut, will also stage diverse exhibitions as part of the art season.

The 2026 Beijing Art Season is guided by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, the Chaoyang District People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, and Beijing Electronics Holding Co Ltd.
