EVIAN-LES-BAINS — The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) countries said ‌on Wednesday they stand united to support Ukraine, including its territorial integrity, and agreed to increase the pressure on the Russian war economy.

“In this ‌context, we will strengthen our sanctions (against Russia), including those on the oil and gas sectors,” the leaders said in a joint statement.

Separately, the leaders, who are meeting for a summit in the French town of Evian-les-Bains, ‌have also welcomed the deal between the United States and Iran and said they are ready to contribute to its implementation.

They added they will make efforts to diversify energy supply routes and reduce dependence on the Strait of Hormuz and increase energy stocks.

Probes intensify to seize assets, including crypto

In addition, G7 leaders said they would strengthen investigations to freeze and seize assets, including virtual assets, in a bid to target organised crime networks.

“We commit to ‌disrupt the economic infrastructure enabling these illegal activities by strengthening financial investigations to trace, freeze, seize and confiscate associated proceeds and assets, including virtual assets,” they said in a statement.

They also said they ‌would create a ports network to combat drug trafficking and would task relevant ministers to develop an action plan by November 2026 against the infiltration of public and private institutions by drug trafficking networks and organised criminal networks.
