Kuala Lumpur: HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and the Qatar Olympic Committee, has held high-level talks in Malaysia focused on strengthening Olympic movement across the continent.
His Excellency has been welcomed by HM Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar, King of Malaysia, with the two sides discussing further bilateral Olympic cooperation and exchanging views on the role of sports in fostering rapprochement between peoples.
They also reviewed initiatives aimed at expanding participation in continental and international events.
HE Sheikh Joaan also held a meeting with HE Prime Minister Dr. Anwar Ibrahim to discuss bilateral relations between the two nations and ways to enhance cooperation in the sports sector, including supporting joint programs and projects related to the development of Olympic sports.
During both meetings, HE Sheikh Joaan reiterated his unwavering support for the Olympic Movement in Malaysia, praising the Malaysian leadership’s efforts in supporting and developing sports at all levels, and enhancing Malaysia’s presence on the Asian and international sports scene.
His Excellency also voiced support for Malaysia to host future events of the Olympic Council of Asia, including the Asian Games, noting the importance of providing the necessary governmental and institutional support to ensure the success of such events.
