Malaysia is positioned as the most accessible gateway to Southeast Asia by 2026

Under the motto “Malaysia, Truly Asia,” Malaysia reaffirms its identity as a unique cultural mosaic, where Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous communities coexist in harmony. This diversity translates into an authentic experience that integrates street markets, historic temples, and a cuisine shaped by centuries of cultural exchange.

Within the framework of Visit Malaysia 2026, the country is reinforcing its strategy to attract international travelers through modern infrastructure, competitive costs and an increasingly efficient air network, positioning itself as one of the most accessible destinations in Southeast Asia for Latin America.

Kuala Lumpur: the principal regional hub

The capital, Kuala Lumpur, serves as the country’s main gateway. Kuala Lumpur International Airport is one of the region’s most important hubs, providing quick connections to destinations such as Penang, Langkawi, Borneo, and Malacca.

Beyond its logistical role, Kuala Lumpur is establishing itself as a destination in its own right. Its cosmopolitan profile combines modern icons like the Petronas Towers with traditional neighborhoods, markets, and one of the most diverse culinary scenes in Asia, at significantly more affordable prices than other destinations in the region.

Connectivity from Latin America

Although there are no direct flights, access to Malaysia is structured through three major international corridors:

Via Europe: Connections from cities such as Paris, Amsterdam, London, Frankfurt, Munich, Rome, and Madrid, operated by airlines including Air France, KLM, British Airways, Lufthansa, ITA Airways, and Iberia. Lufthansa plans to launch the Frankfurt–Kuala Lumpur route in October 2026.
Via the Middle East: Connections through hubs such as Dubai, Doha, and Istanbul, operated by Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Turkish Airlines.
Via Asia: Options via Singapore and Bangkok with Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways.

The main departure points in the region include Buenos Aires, São Paulo, Bogotá and Mexico City.

Penang: protagonista global en 2026

Among the top destinations, Penang stands out as one of the most important of the year. Its capital, George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is distinguished by its cultural diversity and urban dynamism.

Recognized by international media, the city positions itself as one of the gastronomic capitals of Southeast Asia, with a street food offering that combines tradition, authenticity and excellence.

A competitive and growing destination

Beyond its connectivity, Malaysia is establishing itself as a safe, stable, and well-prepared destination for international tourism. Its infrastructure, hospitality, and service standards are complemented by a rich culture expressed in its architecture, festivals, and lifestyle.

With visa-free entry for most Latin American countries, affordable costs, and an expanding air network, Malaysia is reinforcing its position as a strategic destination for the global traveler. From the modernity of Kuala Lumpur to the beaches of Langkawi, the Borneo rainforest, or the culinary scene of Penang, the country offers the diversity of an entire continent in a single trip.
