Malaysia condemns Israel’s approval of new settlements in Palestinian territory | Malaysia

WISMA Putra has expressed firm opposition to Israel’s recent decision to approve the construction of 34 new settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, describing the move as a serious breach of international law and a threat to prospects for peace.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Wisma Putra (Foreign Ministry) said the continued expansion of Israeli settlements violates key international legal frameworks, including the Fourth Geneva Convention and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 (2016).

“Malaysia stresses that the continued expansion of settlements constitutes a violation of international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions including the Fourth Geneva Convention and Resolution 2334 (2016),” the statement said.

The Foreign Ministry added that the move also represents an attempt to alter the demographic composition of the Palestinian Territory, raising further concerns over its long-term implications.

“Malaysia urges the international community and the United Nations Security Council to take decisive action to ensure accountability and compel compliance with international law,” the statement said.

Malaysia reaffirmed its unwavering support for the rights of the Palestinian people, emphasising the need for the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The statement underscores Malaysia’s continued commitment to international law and its position on the Palestinian issue amid ongoing tensions in the region. – April 11, 2026
