Minister backs Indonesian childrens’ aspiration for policymaking

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Arifah Fauzi pushed for an aspiration document of Voice of Indonesian Children (SAI) to become a key foundation in driving government policies focused on the best interests of children.

In a statement in Jakarta on Monday, Fauzi expressed hope that what the children have expressed directly will transform and yield policies that truly address their needs.

“Listening to children’s voices is not an option, but a national obligation and a shared responsibility,” she emphasised upon receiving the SAI official document from National Children’s Forum representatives during the workshop here on Sunday.

SAI document summarises aspirations, needs, and hopes of children from the village level upward, advocating for environments that are safer, healthier, more inclusive, and supportive of children’s growth and development.

The document is set to be read during the peak celebration of National Children’s Day in Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands, on July 23-24, as well as at the Children’s Cultural Festival in Depok, West Java.

“I am deeply moved by what these children from across Indonesia have accomplished, stretching from the village, sub-district, district, city, and provincial levels up to the national stage,” the minister said.

The voices of children, she added, demand concrete work and action from stakeholders across Indonesia, noting that future leaders must know what is happening on the ground and understand what these children feel.

“There is an important lesson here in how we learn to value and respect others’ opinions to reach a shared conclusion, which has ultimately culminated in the 2026 SAI,” Fauzi highlighted.

The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection has reaffirmed its commitment in providing opportunities for children to deliver their aspirations directly to key stakeholders through the Kemudi programme, which allows them to visit the specific ministries and agencies highlighted in the SAI document.
