Jakarta (ANTARA) – Deputy Minister of Manpower Afriansyah Noor reaffirmed the Indonesian government’s commitment to preventing potential layoffs triggered by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

“We will immediately take precautionary measures against layoffs that could lead to widespread unemployment in Indonesia,” he said in Jakarta on Sunday.

According to Noor, ongoing global conflicts are putting pressure on the economies of many countries, including Indonesia, prompting the government to take anticipatory steps to maintain employment stability.

He emphasized that the government continues to monitor the impact of global geopolitical developments on the national labor sector to prevent an increase in layoffs across various industries.

He noted that Indonesia’s unemployment rate currently stands at around 4.3 percent, equivalent to approximately 7.4 million people.

To help the public access employment opportunities, the government is strengthening several programs, including expanding the National Internship Program by increasing its participant quota from 100,000 to 150,000 people in 2026.

Noor explained that the program is intended to help fresh graduates gain work experience and improve their skills, enabling them to better meet increasingly competitive and dynamic industry demands.

In addition, the government is offering national vocational training programs for senior high school and vocational high school graduates through job training centers as part of efforts to improve the quality of Indonesia’s human resources.

“That opens up a quota of 70,000 training slots, so please register and participate,” he said, adding that participants receive daily allowances and certifications during the free training program.

The deputy minister further stated that the government believes a strong people-based economy is a crucial foundation for dealing with global pressures, which is why job training and placement programs continue to be expanded across Indonesia.
