Chow Tai Fook’s first global flagship in Hong Kong explores a fresh language of Chinese luxury

It’s a new chapter for Chow Tai Fook in Hong Kong; welcome to the jeweller’s first flagship store globally, a carefully conceived retail destination in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui. Positioned on Canton Road amid one of the city’s busiest luxury retail districts, the project reimagines how jewellery can be experienced – shifting away from transactional shopping towards a slower, more immersive encounter with craft, material and design.

The flagship marks a significant moment for the global Chinese jewellery brand, whose history spans nearly a century. Rather than following the conventions of traditional jewellery retail, the new interior introduces a residentially inspired concept that frames jewellery within a broader vision of contemporary Chinese luxury living. Organised as a progression of distinct yet interconnected rooms, the space encourages exploration, drawing visitors through a series of carefully calibrated environments that vary in mood, intimacy and scale.

From the outset, the interior establishes a strong visual identity through its rich material palette. The brand’s signature, ‘Timeless Red’ hue is paired with warm timber finishes, soft lighting and sculptural curved forms, creating an atmosphere that feels both refined and enveloping. The spatial language balances monumentality with comfort, offering respite from the density and pace of the surrounding city.

The design moves fluidly between exhibition and hospitality. Visitors encounter a sequence of zones including the ‘Heritage Pavilion’, which chronicles the brand’s journey since 1929 and showcases ancient gold crafting techniques such as chasing and filigree; the ‘Iconic Collection’; and ‘HUÁ’, alongside intimate VIP salons and bespoke consultation spaces. Throughout, open layouts and interactive displays – such as ‘Charm Your Path’, where visitors can put together personalised bracelets based on personality types – invite engagement and encourage visitors to handle, try on, and experience pieces up close.

Throughout the space, heritage and archival jewellery pieces are subtly integrated alongside contemporary and fashion-led designs, underscoring the continuity of craftsmanship across generations.

A striking installation, Gold Ginkgo Tree, is on temporary display to mark the store’s opening. The 2.1m-tall centrepiece, adorned with 3,500 gold leaves, took 50 craftsmen some 60,000 hours to create, and reflects Chow Tai Fook’s emphasis on materiality, artistry and symbolic storytelling, while reinforcing the dialogue between tradition and contemporary expression that runs throughout the interior.

This holistic approach extends beyond jewellery through the introduction of Chow Tai Fook Home within the flagship. Marking the brand’s expansion into luxury home décor, Chow Tai Fook Home debuts with a collaboration with Bernardaud, the venerable French porcelain maison. Chow Tai Fook Home reinterprets oriental motifs such as ‘Fu’ (representing good fortune) and ‘Ginkgo’ (representing longevity) through contemporary design, translating a refined jeweller’s sensibility into porcelain tableware and objets d’art. The move reinforces the company’s broader lifestyle ambitions and its focus on elevating everyday rituals through craft and design.

Meanwhile, the jewellery presentation itself prioritises wearability and personal expression. The recently launched Dawn Collection, inspired by Tang-Dynasty four-petal flower motifs and accented in black enamel, exemplifies this approach. Elsewhere, as with Chow Tai Fook Home, other cultural motifs are also reinterpreted through contemporary forms, reflecting the brand’s ongoing dialogue between heritage and innovation. High jewellery is presented in the flagship as part of the wider spatial experience, bringing a more rarefied expression of craftsmanship, materiality and high-end selection into the interior.

The flagship ultimately functions as more than a retail environment. Conceived as a destination for discovery and reflection, it positions Chow Tai Fook’s evolving identity within a carefully choreographed architectural experience – one where craftsmanship, spatial design and contemporary Chinese luxury are brought into close conversation.
